Canvas misery - der Leidensweg eines Keilrahmens

I want to go to the

 come with me there!

This canvas is in progress since a few month so far. I first glued old ephemera and papers on it ,colored and stamped it and painted a face on it. I wasn´t happy with my face and I hung it unfinished on the wall. Ever I had a look on it, I decided to paint some of my new learned acrylic tulips in front of the face.... but yesterday I did this and what was? I love the tulips I made, but I don´t like the face. I tried to paint a big tulip by incorporating this finished face into the big tulip, but I wasn´t able to to this so, that I was satisfied with my composition. Frustrated I washed away all layers of this unhappy face -to the lowest, glued ephemera on this part of the canvas. And now I am a little bit unhappy and sure it will take another long time to paint a new face or something else to make this canvas finally finished. If you have some tipps for me please let me know in your comment, I am thankful for a good idea!

  3. There are no tips, the work and the artists must be alone, don't worry that at some point you will decide the best. Saludos

  5. Hello, great to visit you. Your painting is looking really good, the tulips and background are lovely, why not shape that face into a purple moon, since I'm into moons at the moment that's what I see, the moon looking down at the tulips. Have a great week-end and enjoy finishing your painting. xx

  7. I really like this piece. I know you aren't happy with the area that was the face but I still think it is a great piece of art. I am sure you will be inspired to know what should go there whether you decide to do another face or keep it as a larger tulip. I think if you keep it hanging up one day you'll look at it and just know what should be there.

  9. It is lovely so far! Wonderful colours.

What about another flower - taller? Maybe a lilac? Or hydrangea (wrong season but...) Or an allium? They bloom with tulips and are taller and rounder.

Looking forward to seeing where you go from here!

  10. It looks great so far. I would leave it for a few days and make something else then come back and try the face again! I love the tulips - my favourite flower.

  11. Your tulips are beautiful! I love the colors and details. As for the face... maybe you can practice in another paper and the collage it if you like it?
Or maybe you can do some lettering, for a nice quote?

  12. i loved it as soon as i saw it - just the way it is. Love the colours, the composition. But it's how YOU feel about it that matters. Sometimes, just leaving it for a few days can help. Trust that if you need a face, it'll make itself visible to you eventually. Happy PPF! xoxo

  14. Susi, it is gorgeous. I don't know that it really needs a face. I think you could fill in a little of the ex-face area with colors that are in the painting already.

Happy PPF!

  18. Oh, so sorry to hear that this piece is frustrating you. :(

I think your tulips look great. Not sure what you should do next. Maybe you could make a few different faces on other papers and whichever you like best could be collaged onto this piece. Or you could figure out something other than a face to add to your field of tulips. Whatever you end up doing, I'm sure it will look great. I'm loving the layers and the colors you have here!

    Happy PPF!

  19. Very pretty and sweet! My sister Peggy learned to draw faces by tracing real ones from magazines. You might want to try that!!! Patsy from

  21. Your flowers are amazing. The painting is amazing. I don't have any advice for the face other than your muse will tell you what it needs when your muse is ready. At least that is how my muse works.

  24. Sometimes I get stuck on a piece of work and ask for some help but no one here really delves in art so most times I'm alone except for PPF which is a wonderful site to gather much and advice is one.
How about a dandelion? They are whimsical and dreamy and often times struggle to reach for the sun in a mist of Spring flowers.....certainly one of my very fav wild flowers!
p.s. And if not , hope at least I helped you a bit to untangle ideas.

  25. Agreeing with all the others that it is beautiful so far.

I would probably just live with the painting for a while longer. The face (if there is to be a face) will suddenly seem so obvious that you will wonder why you didn't see it in the beginning.

  26. Lovely canvas! I love seeing a work in progress and can't wait to see the face appear! Also loved your blossoms in your most recent post! Very pretty!

  28. I always like to the the progression of a painting - how it develops. This is go lovely. Your tulips are glorious. The right face will appear when it is time :)
