I have never seen such a bird in reality ..... *sigh*

but I love to see them on Pinterest .....

this photo inspired me to this A5 Mixed Media painting on recycled cardboard.

Northern Cardinals are not to see here in my part of the world, but  we have nice birds as well.
We have  many of birds as visiters since we have the most beautiful new bird restaurant in our garden, which  hubby built recently - I even was allowed to help with the napkin decoration technique  on the plastic - container .

but I am not good in taking photos of the visitors to use as a reference for possible later drawings.
I have to be much more patient.
Here is the great tit and Mr.Woodpecker - but unfortunately both are obscured by the branches.
I mentioned that I am a bad  photographer of birds ! - sorry-

My little friend , the greenfinch

Enjoy your Saturday!

  2. A luxury restaurant - a very apt description for that lovely feeding tower.
The cardinal is really very spectacular. I have been lucky enough to see one.

  3. How beautiful! I can see you are a bird lover. I love to feed them too and can spend hours just looking at them. Your painting is wonderful. Love the depth of the branch and the snowy backround is perfect for the red.

  7. Beautiful painting, I love it. We used to live in the country and had Cardinals visiting frequently. Along with looking beautiful they have the most wonderful song. I miss seeing them here in town where we now live. The photographs are great, nice to have such pretty visitors! Happy Weekend, Shirleyxx

  8. Your husband's bird restaurants (love that way to describe them!) is beautiful. And I can see your birds. Cardinals are pretty spectacular, aren't they-(like today's art piece by the way!). We only occasionally see them here, but if you go just a little bit south there are a lot of them. I think we have too much forest here for them. The red is very vibrant against the snow! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  13. I love your bird restaurant - and your beautiful visitors! Your cardinal in the snow is wonderful! I would love to see a cardinal too although I am always happy to see the birds here! I watched a group of Longtailed tits in the tree outside my craft room but didn't think about my camera until it was too late! Enjoy the rest of the weekend! Hugs, Chrisx

  16. AH, now I know what I am missing. A bird restaurant. What a gorgeous addition to your yard, and a real treat for the birds, I'm sure. I've been around cardinals all my life, so I was thrilled to see your interpretation of this majestic bird. It's a real beauty.

Now I'm off to see what else I've missed while I've been on hiatus.

  20. Your painting is beautiful Susi! No cardinals here either, and we are lucky to see a woodpecker! Maybe, if we had a lovely feeding station like yours!

  21. Your Cardinal is beautiful Susi! You truly did him justice! Even though the male has most of the red, the female is a beauty unto herself!
Oh I do wish you had them in your area, their song is just so delightful! I sing back and forth with them often! (My hubby calls me "The Bird Lady" heehee)
    hugs xo

  22. Come visit me, Susi--Cardinals (especially in winter time) are very easy to spot here! I love the decorated restaurant!

  23. Lovely painting of the Cardinal, Susi,
It's very difficult to photograph the birds at the table, at the sight of camera or binoculars they are away so quickly. I can see clearly Mr. Woodpecker (who sometimes visits me too!) and the Great Tit.

  24. Your painted Cardinal is wonderful liebe Susi!!!
I just took another photo of Mr Cardinal in our back garden. He and his wife spend all the seasons with us.
Your Green Finch is beautiful and like nothing I have seen here in Virginia.
Birds are a special part of life for sure.
