Hornbeam

We have a nice  hornbeam hedge around the half of our property -  40 meters to trim twice a year- inside and outside . What means plenty of work for hubby and me, but we love the high green fence and the birdies love it as well.

I took some of the leaves and dried them and ironed them between kitchenroll- and backing paper .
I covered them partially with white gesso and other acrylic paint and collaged them with scraps and all kinds of other stuff in one of my Altered Books. After everything was dry I sealed all with acrylic varnish spray in matte.

I accented with stabilo all in black and with a white correction pen.
Some random marks were  made with pencil, others were stamped.

  3. What a wonderful spread Susi - love the way you used the leaves. We don't have hornbeams here, so it was a new tree to me. It's always lovely to have trees and the birds nearby

  4. Amazing textures on the pages Susi and I can hear the birds twittering now in your beautiful hedge. There are couple of house near us with the tight hedges and they are full of little, busy birds all the time.

    Love Chrissie xx

  11. Fabulous idea using your leaves and what an awesome and beautiful page it made.
Your hedge looks lovely and I can imagine the birds loving it.
We have a hedge of conifer type trees that are dying and will be removed in November. We are now trying to find something suitable to plant in its place to keep the wildlife happy but which won't be too difficult to maintain.
    Have a lovely day Susi.

  19. I am getting ready to cut down the now overgrown and dying flower bed in my front yard. This post has inspired me to save a few leaves and turn them into art. You have once again inspired me to consider using items from nature. I love, love, love this mixed media spread!

  23. What a beautiful hedge-fence, I'm sure the birds love it.
That's marvellous how you have taken four leaves and made them into this work of art with all your ingenious layering. I love the tiny pale blue text-fence at the bottom too.
