This and that on Saturday!

I tried to use a part of the body of a book that I separated from another  that I am altering. I was lucky enough  to cut and tear a complete part of the text block with all the pages still holding together . No leaf peels away. I bound it into a cover  with a simple pamphlet stitch. The cover was made of fabric - initially a fabric tote bag that I painted 3 years ago and never had an idea what to do with it, because it was just ugly- but I kept it - you know we are hunter gatherers. The closure is a hair ribbon and an old button.
I am quite happy with this SOLUTION for a "book-part".

It opens proper and the spreads lie flat enough to work on them.

I think it will be a good journal for experimental pages and spreads.
On this pages that are still in progress I tried free motion stitching with my old sewing machine...
that's fun to do. I am glad my old machine is able to do this .
I was inspired by Elizabeth who did this recently on one of her pages, so I had to try this as well.
I am always inspired by her! Thank you Elizabeth

here are my first attempts - and yes I know that I have to practice much!

And now for ART JOURNAL JOURNEY where Valerie this month is waiting for
many  entries - so get your creative juices flowing!

Light and Darkness (is the topic)

I used images from the Graphic Fairy for this spread in one of my Altered Books.

Happy weekend to you all!
Enjoy it!

  1. The little book turned out well, have fun with it. The journal page is lovely, too. No bright side here this morning, just fog to see. Hugs, Valerie

  3. A brilliant idea with the book-thank you for the inspiration. Wonderful pages today and a real light bulb moment. I am singing the Monty Python version of the quote lol.

    Have a great day

    Love Chrissie xx

  4. oohh das buch ist soo wunderschön und eine geniale idee, deine seiten sind auch klasse, bei dem lied pfeife ich automatisch mit *LOL*
    ein schönes we für dich.

    lieben gruß jenny

    P.S. Deine/Eure Pappmache-Werke sind ganz toll!

  6. LOTS of fun art today Susi. Love your idea for the book closure. Elizabeth may inspire us but you have the clever ideas. Who'd have thought of a hair tie? Not me. at least. And you are the expert at light bulbs too! Have a great weekend. W're off shortly for our day out and hockey game tonight. I'm excited. Hugs-Erika

  7. Love the new book and cover and I am in awe of the free stitching.
Its a fantastic spread with the light bulbs as well.
    Yvonne xx

  8. Even before I saw my name, I thought how clever this was and how similar it looked to my scrappy journal covers. This is extremely clever. I have an old tote bag stamped with leaves, that's been sitting around for ages. You have now given me an idea for how I can finally put it to good use. Talk about inspiration! Inspiration inspires and suits both of us well. You go girl!

  9. Forgot to mention how much I like your light bulbs, too.

  10. Love this book and the fabulous cover! I really must give this a try….and uncover my sewing machine! Your journal page is fabulous! Hugs, Chrisx

  11. Boahhh, was hast du wieder für tolle Werke in letzter Zeit gezeigt. Einfach alles suuuper!
Ich wünsche dir einen schönen 2. Advent.
    LG Carola

  12. so eine tolle Idee....du bist eine Zauberkünstlerin. Toll was du alles aufs Papier Zauberst, Wunderschön.
Ich wünsche dir ein wunderschönes Adventswohenende
    LG susa

  13. Wow so much to look at Susi, love all of it but especially your wonderful sewing skills ;)
    Donna xx

  14. What an uplifting post! Love the journal and your sewing for it! Great quote too...all beautiful eye candy here as always!

    Hugs Giggles

  15. A fabulous altered book Susi, it will make a brilliant practice journal and I love your light and bright page with those wonderful lightbulb images xxx

  16. Your art always inspires me, Susi, these two pieces are lovely but what caught my eye in this post was the free machine stitching. Your samples looks terrific, and I rather like the flower. Sometimes the machine needle can have "artistic" ideas of its own and I quite like that. The flower is charming.

  17. Wow lots to see, your journal cover is gorgeous and the free stitching as well (nothing to improve, I love them). My sewing machine sits and collects dust in my closet. Cheers, xx

  18. Your book is really inspiring and fabulous Susi.
Your free stitching is cool - my machine also sits collecting dust - although I might need to alter or make some new curtains soon - I hope it still works properly.
Cool AJJ spread - love the light bulbs..Seeing your quote has got me humming the Monty Python song :)
Hope you've had a great weekend. ...... Gill xx

  19. I am in love with this book - I think your cover is most attractive - in fact the cover is what drew me in! I got tickled when you said that your journal was for experimental pieces. Everything I do is experimental -- great ideas and work Susi!

  20. Your book cover is so bright and cheery, it would definatey inspire me to experiment. It looks so tactile and I love the closure, you are so clever to use a hair ribbon and an old button - beautiful :-). The lightbulbs and sentiment are so much fun and I can't stop singing that song now ... lol :-). Hope you had a lovely weekend and wishing you a great start to the week! J :-)

  21. Always fantastic re-use from you. Stitchy goodness too! xox

  22. This is such an inspirational post.
In love with your free form stitching.

  23. Very fun! I love both the free motion stitching and the light/dark spread! hugs,Jackie
