Post No. 2226 - Let's Celebrate!

We have a new theme for December over at ART JOURNAL JOURNEY and  I am very happy that a lovely artist and blogfriend of mine hosts  this month  and  great news about the Art Journal Journey family we have to announce as well! So pop over to ART JOURNAL JOURNEY and read about the theme and have a look at the example our host  made for us and CELEBRATE with us
I want to say a big THANK YOU to our November hostess Chris! Your theme was just amazing and thank you very much for acting as such an inspirational host and that you have been so supportive to all the participating artists.

I "celebrate" my new  Derwent Inktense Ink Pencils in this post - hubby gifted it to me recently and I am quite  happy about  them. So vibrant in colours - gorgeous!

I drew holiday lights  and coloured them in with the Inktense and a waterbrush!

I was kind of  unhappy with the labeling of the Inktense, specially in artificial light I have problems. The little ends are coloured and there is  also a number and the name of the colour on all of the pencils-
but the lettering is so tiny that I always have to take off my glasses in order to read the numbers or names. I often read without glasses now even though I have fitting variofocals. And the coloured ends of the pencils are nice but the dark colours all look similiar in artificial light.

So it was necessary to make not just a colour map key for me but also put on a little colour sample on each pencil.

I labeled all pencils just for making all looking alike.
All my other watercolour pencils are much better to identify. I think the glossy surface of the Inktense Pencils makes it so difficult.

The text is written with black watercolour and the fine paintbrush ( works well).
White highlights were made with white correction pen.

So let's celebrate over at ART JOURNAL JOURNEY!
I am looking forward to see with what you will come up this month!
Always a pleasure to see  the AJJ folk sharing the most inventive ideas at the challenge blog!

HAPPY DECEMBER!!!

  2. I've heard those watercolor pencils are fabulous. Of course, they were made more lovely by your colorful Christmas lights. This is wonderful and I really like how you marked them. If I ever get any of these, I will do the same, because I think that is SO clever of you. If light is a problem, colors don't look right, do they? Of course the pencil is only as good as the artist who uses it, and you use it perfectly

Viele liebe Grüße zum ersten Dezember!

  6. That's a great idea making a colour sample for each pencil and putting it actually on the pencil. Quite often the colour on the actual pen or pencil bears little relation to the real paint colour.
What a great present for you hubby to choose.
I love that you are celebrating coloured pencils, I think they are underrated in the art world. Here's to using more coloured pencils this month.
The Christmas lights drawing is super, and celebrates both the colours and the season.
    Happy celebrating!

  8. Nice celebration page Susi. And lucky you to get such a colorful and fun gift from your husband. He must be a sweet loving guy. :) Like you I usually take my classes off to read. I think I would rather do that than need glasses to read. Loving those holiday lights, and boy those pencils do work well. Happy December-Hugs-Erika

  11. Love your festive lights Susi, and what a wonderful gift from your hubby! I have to say I totally agree with the colour problem of the inktense pencils (though I love the pencils themselves and I have quite a collection, - I buy them singly). Such a clever idea to stick the colour samples on the pencils themselves, - I may have to pinch that idea, - very clever! Have a very happy month!!

  18. What a great idea to label your Inktense this way - it would make them so much easier to read. I, too, find the colour to be 'off true' and this is brilliant!
